The Gallery’s children’s programs are designed to provide an entry point into exhibitions and collections. The goal of our programming is to challenge children with ideas, media and ways of creating artwork. Diverse programming offers a variety of projects/workshops for children of all ages to participate and engage in the gallery exhibitions. With the purchase of a Takash press the gallery continues to develop printmaking programs for all ages in the areas of relief that relate directly to gallery exhibitions and its collections.

Marianne Otterstrom - Marianne has a diploma in Fine Arts from Vancouver Community College Langara Campus where she majored in printmaking and sculpture. Marianne has been an instructor at the Shadbolt Centre since 1989, and has volunteered for many years within the Burnaby schools with work on murals, student art galleries, banner projects, stream of dreams, set design and other children’s art related activities.
Jay Johnson - Jay graduated from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1993 with a focus on Sculpture and Industrial Design. His own work is founded in sculpture, installation, sound and video. Jay brings a wealth of teaching experience, having also taught at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Evergreen Art Gallery, Richmond Art Gallery, and many visiting artist programs in Vancouver and Burnaby schools. Jay’s work with students is designed to foster intuitive, innovative thought processes through playful experimentation.
Shelley Tucker - Shelley has her BFA in Visual Arts from the School of Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. Her artwork has a focus on photography and portraiture. Shelley has been a docent at the Burnaby Art Gallery since 2006, and teaches community programs at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Lor Schneider
Lor’s enthusiasm for art began at Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles, where she studied sculpture, drawing and painting. Always interested in expanding her skills, Lor practiced outdoor painting at the Banff School of Art and learned printmaking at the Vancouver School of Art. An interest in art history led to Lor receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University. She has been inspiring her students in the Burnaby community for over 10 years.
Hannah Bennett
For many years Hannah Bennett has enjoyed getting inky when producing linocut, woodblock, monotype and intaglio prints. She has returned to the Burnaby Art Gallery for the Summer Printmaking Classes and is excited to explore with students printmaking techniques and traditions and design concepts such as pattern, line and shape. She is finishing her BFA at the University of the Fraser Valley and has also been involved in various print co-ops in Vancouver. Currently, she works from her home studio and exhibits in and around the Fraser Valley.
Andra Jurzyniec
Andra has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Education (Arts Education) from the University of Regina. She has worked as a teacher in Saskatchewan, a gallery facilitator and art instructor at the MacKenzie Art Gallery (Regina), and is currently employed as an art instructor and gallery attendant at the Burnaby Art Gallery.
