The Burnaby Art Gallery depends on the generosity and talents of the team of dedicated volunteers who share their time to help us meet our goals. At the gallery we build an environment that allows our volunteers to give back to the community while developing their own skills, gaining valuable experiences and finding personal fulfillment.
Burnaby Art Gallery recruits at various times for volunteers in these areas:
Docents
Docents work with gallery educators to lead school groups on tours of the gallery exhibitions and assist with creating art in a supportive environment. Docents bring their excellent communication skills to leading tours. This is a rewarding way to develop skills as a teacher and leader while learning about and conveying your art knowledge. Volunteer docents must commit to leading tours from October to May, several times a month on weekdays. Training is provided.
Art Program Assistants
Program assistants provide support to a gallery educator during children’s programs in the summer and throughout the year. Assistants may help with preparing art materials, setting up activities, and providing one on one help for participants.
Openings, Receptions and Special Events
Volunteers regularly make our exhibition openings and other special events a success. Opportunities range from helping with refreshments, taking photographs or welcoming visitors to facilitating community interaction at festivals and other events.
Art Rentals, Administration
Opportunities may include assisting with archiving, researching or other administrative tasks.
Supplies Assistants
Supplies assistants prepare art materials for the hundreds of children in our programs- everything from cutting paper, pouring plaster, and sorting objects to restocking pastels or organizing bins.
Getting Involved
The volunteer opportunities at the gallery are always changing. Ask us how you can get involved!
