The Burnaby Art Gallery provides access to and interpretation of contemporary visual art in alternative venues throughout the City of Burnaby. Themed exhibitions created from the permanent collection and emerging artists’ works comprise the Burnaby public library exhibit program. The McGill and Bob Prittie libraries are the main branches where exhibitions occur. Exhibitions are traditionally between 35 and 60 days in length and reference topical subjects within the art world and media related news and information. All exhibits are curated and organized by the Burnaby Art Gallery.
An Ensemble of Printmaking Fine Art
By Sabina Proulx
Bob Prittie Metrotown Library
January 9- March 11, 2012
This retrospective exhibition covers 25 years of exploring different print techniques by the Shawnigan Lake artist Sabina Proulx. Various mediums have been used by Sabina throughout this time including etching, linocut, multiple plate reduction, divided block printing and photo etching. Examples of each of these mediums are included in the exhibition.
Inspired by nature and through international exposure to a variety of cultures after a childhood spent in different parts of Europe, Africa and North America, Sabina’s prints embody intriguing cultural motifs with evocative images and symbols derived from the natural world.
A member of Victoria’s Ground Zero Printmakers Society, Sabina has exhibited extensively with the group including the Members’ Exhibition presented by the Burnaby Art Gallery at McGill Branch Library in 2010. This Art In the Libraries presentation is Sabina’s first solo exhibition in Metro Vancouver.

Eye Music Gallery, 1982
From The City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection
McGill Library
January 10- March 12, 2012
The Eye Music Gallery portfolio was published in 1982 as a fundraising project for Toronto’s Music Gallery. “Curated “ by participating artists Michael Snow and Nobuo Kubota, many of the artists chosen for the project were also musicians or sound poets. Also asked to participate were three, at that time, emerging artists: Ron Martin, John Massey and the late David Bierk.
With the exceptions of John Massey’s contribution which was printed at Tac Studio in Toronto and the prints by the three London, Ontario artists included in the exhibition- Ron Martin, Murray Favro and Greg Curnoe, printed at Maison Moll in London, all the prints were printed at Jerry Shiner’s Art Printer in Toronto. The Eye Music Gallery portfolio was purchased by the gallery in 1994. This is the first time that the complete portfolio has been shown by the gallery.
