Fred Chapman is a photographic artist living and working in Burnaby, British Columbia focusing much of his attention on Deer Lake Park. He is interested in all phases of photography but his first love is nature. His work details basic structures of the land and how its geological history was recorded in fascinating patterns, textures, colours and forms. These he often renders in quite an abstract way, generally on ilfochrome (cibachrome) prints.

Chapman was Pacific Zone Director of the National Association for Photographic Art from 1981 to 1990 and is a founding member of the Burnaby Photographic Society. He was an integral part of the establishment of the BC Photographers print shows held in Robson Square Media Centre from 1981 to 1990, the largest such show in Western Canada.

Chapman has lectured extensively at photography seminars in North America and has had solo exhibitions at the Burnaby Art Gallery, Surrey Art Gallery, Richmond Art Gallery, John Nichols Gallery (Santa Paulo, CA), Milne Gallery, Richmond Gateway Photo Gallery and in the Showcase Project, a NAPA-sponsored theme show (several times). In 1987, Fred Chapman was awarded the National Association for Photographic Arts Silver Medal for his contribution to photography and the NAPA.
